Product Engineering Manager

Location: Kansas City, MO

Labconco's Product Engineering Manager will design, develop, maintain, and look for opportunities to improve Labconco products from the Engineering Department. Coordinate research and development, product modification, and improvement activities in conformance with established engineering practices and organization objectives. Continuously monitor activities of the team to keep products functionally current, competitive, cost effective, efficient to manufacture, and safe for their intended use.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Continually seeks new product opportunities in keeping with the organization’s competencies.
  • Assist all other departments by lending technical assistance with regard to products, applications, and product regulatory responsibilities.  
  • Assist Product Engineers with projects as needed. Guide projects, set goals and resolve issues.
  • Develop a schedule for executing projects including the resources necessary to complete the tasks.
  • Actively participate in focus groups and travel, as needed, to determine customers needs
  • Ensure that assigned products are designed in a safe manner, in compliance with the criteria of pertinent approval agencies or other risk analysis.
  • Involve Marketing, Manufacturing Engineering and Purchasing as partners during product development and provide them with timely information and support throughout the process.
  • Tests all new products and revisions to ensure reliability and compliance.
  • Maintain complete and accurate lifecycle documentation for products.  
  • Provide Manufacturing complete and accurate data when any product is released. Carefully monitor the quality and efficiencies to ensure that the design goals can be achieved on the shop floor and that customers are satisfied with the product.
  • Conform and seek ways to promote the Labconco brand. 
  • Coordinate to ensure a high quality user’s manual is shipped with each product from day one that provides the user all pertinent information. 
  • Know and understand all U.S. and international standards. Keep Labconco products in compliance as agreed upon with Sales & Marketing.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned by Management.


Work Schedule

Normal working hours are typically 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday; unless otherwise discussed and/or established by the manager or seasonal schedule changes. From time to time additional hours may be required, as needed. This position is expected to work from the office.


Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises Product and Design Engineers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree from four year college or university and ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
